Andrew Harvey

Andrew Harvey’s musical education began with violin lessons at the age of four before continuing at Wells Cathedral School, the Purcell School and the Royal Academy of Music (RAM). Andrew was recently awarded a post graduate degree with distinction from the RAM where he studied with Marianne Thorsen and Eric Gruenberg.

Andrew was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. He was principal 2nd violin of the European Union Youth Orchestra and has led the European Union Chamber Orchestra (EUCO). As soloist, Andrew has performed concertos including Bach’s E Major Violin Concerto and Bartok’s 2nd Violin Concerto with orchestras such as EUCO and The Orchestra Of The City. Recently, he was invited to perform in the Philharmonia Orchestra and also won a place on the London Sinfonietta Academy. Conductors he has worked with include Ashkenazy, Davis, Howarth, Knussen, Mackerris, Rattle and Tortelier.

Andrew has performed chamber music at the Norfolk and Norwich Festival, Lake District Summer Music Festival, Chelsea Schubert Festival and various venues including the Wigmore Hall, The Purcell Room and Buckingham Palace. His interest in contemporary music has led to a number of works being written for him. Recently, he performed with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group in the world premiere of ’On Conversing With Paradise’ by Elliott Carter and has taken part in the British premiere of Nono’s Prometeo at the South Bank’s Stockhausen Festival.
